 Working Shop Foreman/Diesel Mechanic

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Oversee and plan workflow of the fleet service department by establishing priorities and scheduling preventative maintenance and repairs. Perform preventative maintenance, repairs and inspections of vehicles and equipment as required. This position will help lead the current staff of mechanics and help coordinate and implement the repair and preventative maintenance scheduling for all Taplin equipment. This position will work in our brand-new, state-of-the-art 40,000 sq ft maintenance facility located in Kalamazoo, MI.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Discuss daily goals with mechanics and assign responsibility for individual repairs of equipment.

  • Supervise and inspect the work of company mechanics.

  • Provide training and guidance to company mechanics in order to meet overall objectives of the maintenance process.

  • Communicate with field staff with questions or equipment issues.

  • Perform necessary repairs to keep company vehicles and equipment in proper working order and condition.

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of Company-owned equipment and vehicles in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, State regulations, and Company policy.

  • Establish parts/supplies needed for repairs and maintain records of inventory, as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to show competency and have experience in the following areas:

    • Class 8 trucks

    • Industrial vacuum trucks and vacuum systems

    • Water blasters, water blasting components and pressure washers

    • Hydraulic systems

    • Truck Electrical systems

    • Construction equipment

    • H.D. engine diagnosing and repair

    • Small engines

    • Air brakes

  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal forms

  • Metal fabrication skills and experience
